An off-duty Fort Worth firefighter died from injuries related to a motorcycle crash Monday night.
Firefighter Lylian "Randy" Berry, Jr., 42, of Fort Worth, sustained fatal injuries during the crash.
The crash happened in the 300 block of Sycamore School Road in south Fort Worth, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department. Officials say Berry lived about one mile from the crash site.
A female passenger on the motorcycle, 37-year-old Shymill Murphy, was critically injured in the crash. Fort Worth Fire Deparment said Murphy was in surgery as of 11 p.m. Monday.
Berry was assigned to Fire Station 28 on Everman Parkway in south Fort Worth. FWFD officials say the on-duty crew from that station were the first to arrive on the scene of the crash. Berry and Murphy were transported by MedStar paramedics and members of the crew from Station 28 to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
Berry was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at the emergency department.
The Fort Worth Fire Department says Berry had been with the department since January 2006. Berry was a certified rescue diver and previously served for several years on the department's swift water/underwater rescue team.
He is survived by two daughters, 19-year-old Desiree and 15-year-old Dominique. Funeral arrangements are pending.
The Fort Worth Police Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
