Six Texas college students were injured when a first-floor porch collapsed at a Gulf Shores, Ala., beach house Monday afternoon, WPMI-TV reports.
At about 4:30 p.m. Monday, the porch buckled and sent more than a dozen college students from TCU and UT tumbling 12-feet to the ground below, WPMI reported.
"The support beams gave out, and the whole porch just collapsed," said TCU student William Bonner, as told to WPMI-TV. "People said they couldn't feel their legs. We were worried they might be paralyzed from the waist down."
Ultimately, all of the injuries were minor, according to Gulf Shores police.
WPMI reported varying accounts that said there were anywhere from 15 to 50 people on the porch when it collapsed.
A family who rented the beach house next door to the college students told WPMI there were "easily 40 people" on the deck when it gave way. The person who rented the house for the TCU and UT students told WPMI that only 15 people were on the porch when it buckled and that it wasn't the weight that caused the collapse, but rather the construction.
Those injured in the collapse have not been identified.
